Topics of Concern

1) Advance Requests for Medical Assistance in Dying (ARMD): Harmonizing the Criminal Code with Quebec law is essential to ensure that access to ARMD is guaranteed equally for all citizens and by all levels of government.

 2) Opening medical assistance in dying (MAID) to people with mental health disorders as their sole pathology: This has been postponed until 2027, but the next government must commit to taking preparations seriously. Denying MAID to people suffering from serious and treatment-resistant mental illness is discriminatory. It is time to move forward on this issue and allow the provinces to adequately prepare.

3) Expanding MAID to mature minors when their illness is incurable, and their death is reasonably foreseeable: The suffering of patients with incurable illnesses is no lessened because they are under 18.

Let's mobilize!

The AQDMD has prepared tools to help you engage your candidates and party leaders in order to obtain clear commitments.

1) Our toolkit will give you all the advice you need to meet your candidates, raise awareness, and obtain commitments.

2) This module will allow you to engage party leaders in one minute on the issue of end-of-life.

At the same time, we have written to all parties to ask them to commit: find our press release on the subject here.

Some of the positions taken are not encouraging; we need your help!

The issue of end-of-life affects, without exception, all citizens of Canada; it must not be a last priority despite the tense economic and international context.
