The second kit is a back-up, to be used in the event of equipment failure, a handling error or, if necessary, to adjust the dosage of the medication.

The remaining medication, including the second kit, even if it has not been used, must be returned in full to the pharmacist and it will be destroyed according to standard techniques.

Since the pandemic, drug shortages have caused restrictions on certain medications. This, fortunately, helped to improve things in this regard and greatly reduce waste, without impacting quality of care. As a result, the 2nd kit is only prepared in standard packaging, without being opened or placed in a syringe, which makes it possible to save it for another procedure.
